CURRENT EXHIBITION

IN CAMMINO. La porta di Torino: itinerari Sindonici sulla Via Francigena

Details
  • On the occasion of the 2022 European Meeting of the Taizé Community in Turin, in collaboration with the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts and with the support of the Consulta for Artistic and Cultural Heritage of Turin, the Carlo Acutis Foundation offered young people from countries across the continent the experience of faces in the Face, an artistic path focused on the Holy Face.
  • The Carlo Acutis Foundation is participating in the works for the Church of Kwauso, a school dedicated to the Holy Face in Bukoba, Tanzania. The origin of the Qwauso school is summarized by its founder, Father Stanislaus Mutajwahaha, in seven words: “The sequel of looking at the Shroud”. These words capture the essence of the vitality of the Holy Shroud in those who draw inspiration from it, which is why the Carlo Acutis Foundation chose them to define all of its Shroud-related activities.

From restoration to the creation of a museum

The heart of the Sanctuary is made up of the Church of Saint Mary Major, the first cathedral of Assisi. Near the church is the former bishop’s palace, with the Hall of Spoliation, dedicated to Saint Francis.

The aim of the restoration project is to bring to light the Roman elements present and the place where Saint Francis actually cast off his rich clothes, and to create a museum within the bishop’s palace.

Details

Contemplated in the project is the reopening of the centuries-old door and the identification of the ground level at the time of St. Francis, while maintaining the present-day structure and the entrance.

Work began on 14 May 2021, and is expected to last about two years.

The total cost of the project is around €2 million, and it will be partly funded by the Italian Episcopal Conference. The Sanctuary of the Spoliation Foundation is also sourcing private funds to complete the work.

The classics of Christian literature, affordable for everyone

Culture belongs to everyone, and with this project, the Foundation wants to make the great classic authors accessible even for the most disadvantaged students, thanks to a contribution that will make it possible to sell a number of important texts of ancient, mediaeval and modern Christian literature at an affordable price.

The works concerned are the collection “I Talenti”, and its sister collection, the renowned French series “Sources Chrétiennes”, with which it shares the same style characteristics, approach and content.

The two collections complement one another: I Talenti contains those fundamental writings that form the base of the Eastern and Western, Christian and non-Christian cultural traditions.

Details

Each volume is composed of a lengthy historical and theological introduction; at least one chapter dedicated to matters of philology and language; text in the original language (Latin, Greek, etc.) in its critical version; Italian translation of the ancient text on the page opposite; various levels of notes (biblical; regarding variants of textual criticism; parallel passages; notes explaining the content).

Although the production of each volume is very expensive, the project will make it accessible even to people in financial difficulty.
